What is AIR OPTIX AQUA? How is AIR OPTIX AQUA different from other traditional hydrogel contact lenses?

New AIR OPTIX AQUA breathable contact lenses from CIBA VISION deliver an advanced combination of oxygen and moisture for a new level of comfort on contact, all day, every day, for a healthy, natural feeling.

AIR OPTIX AQUA lenses start and stay comfortable with the unique AQUA Moisture System:

  - Lubricates for initial comfort with a unique moisture agent that binds with the lens surface to create a silky layer that helps the eyelid easily glide over the lens.
  - Maintains all-day comfort with a patented lens material that helps maintain moisture by minimizing the rate of lens dehydration .
  - Sustains comfort every day with superior wettability and excellent deposit resistance from an ultra-smooth surface.

AIR OPTIX AQUA lenses are also made from a revolutionary material that allows up to 5x more oxygen through the lens than traditional hydrogel lenses for healthy-looking eyes. They are even approved for daily and up to 6 nights of overnight wear.

What is the wear and replacement schedule for AIR OPTIX AQUA lenses?
AIR OPTIX AQUA have FDA and CE mark approvals for daily and extended wear for up to six nights, with recommended replacement after one month.

What powers are AIR OPTIX AQUA available in?
AIR OPTIX AQUA is offered in a single base curve (8.6mm) in spherical powers from -1.00 to -10.00.

I have astigmatism. Can I wear AIR OPTIX AQUA lenses?
AIR OPTIX AQUA for astigmatism is currently not available, but will be made available soon.

Does AIROPTIX AQUA have a handling tint?
AIR OPTIX AQUA lenses have a light blue handling tint, making them easier to see when handling.

What lens care solution should I use to clean my AIR OPTIX AQUA lenses?

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

What material is AIR OPTIX AQUA based on?
AIR OPTIX AQUA lenses are made of lotrafilcon B, a revolutionary patented silicone hydrogel material. AIR OPTIX AQUA material is surface treated, making the surface more wettable, deposit resistant and anti-bacterial.

What is silicone hydrogel?
AIR OPTIX AQUA lenses are made of a revolutionary patented silicone hydrogel material, lotrafilcon B. The unique molecular structure of this material has two distinct pathways that allow water to pass through the lens without reducing the material’s ability to transmit oxygen to the eye. This enables the lens to move freely on the eye and to keep plenty of oxygen flowing to the cornea.

Why is it important for oxygen to pass through the lens to the eye?
Oxygen is essential to keep eyes comfortable and healthy. If your eyes don't get enough oxygen, you may experience symptoms such as end-of-day discomfort, dryness and redness. These symptoms may be reduced by switching to breathable contact lenses, such as AIR OPTIX AQUA which are made of a revolutionary lens material - silicone hydrogel, that allows the eyes to breathe and stay healthy-looking.

What is Dk/t?
Oxygen transmissibility (Dk/t) refers to the lens material’s ability to transmit oxygen to the eyes. It takes into account the material’s oxygen transmissibility and the lens thickness, factors that affect the amount of oxygen that can pass through the lens to the eyes.
